Unattended Children

A colleague recently told me about a sign in a store. It read "Unattended children will be given an espresso and a free kitten." Too funny! But a clear message. Our signage at SwimAmerica may not be so clever, but it's crystal clear: "always supervise children within arm's length in and around water." So, what exactly is arm's length? My arm measures about 2 and a half feet. Why do we want kids so close to their parents? First and foremost: SwimAmerica is a pool facility, and water always means CLOSE supervision of young children. Our retail items can also be intriguing; they're not so dangerous, but certainly not for borrowing (or breaking) without purchase. And our front door exits into a busy parking lot. Basically, we're insistent about arm's length supervision because we care about our swimmers and their families. Plus it's much easier to give your child a hug for being such a great little swimmer - if they're only an arm's length away! And don't worry; we won't be giving our swimmers free long as you're about 2 - 3 feet away!
