When can I register?
Any time!
What
if I join in the middle of the month?
No problem! Your initial payment will include the prorated amount
for the month you’re starting, as well as the fees for the
following month’s lessons.
What
do I have to pay up front?
You’ll pay the annual family registration fee of $30, plus the
first full month of lessons, and any prorated amount for a partial
month if you’re starting in the middle of a month. You can pay
that with a check or credit card before your first lesson.
I
know now that we only want to take lessons in June and July? Can
we do that?
If you know your stop day at the time you register, you can fill
out a Withdrawal Form and return it to our front desk right away.
Your
initial payment will cover lessons for both June and July.
Do
we have lessons during holidays or when the schools are closed?
SwimAmerica observes most DJUSD school holidays. Please check our master
schedule (online or at the front desk) for specific dates the
pool is closed and lessons are canceled.
What
happens to my auto-payment when my lesson falls on a holiday when
SwimAmerica is closed? Or a month with 5 weeks?
Our monthly fees are based on a four-week month. If your regular lesson falls on a holiday, your auto-payment will be prorated to reflect the closure. If a month has an extra week and you end up with 5 lessons, your monthly charge will reflect the additional lesson for that month.
We’re
going on vacation for several weeks this summer. Can
we do some makeups?
If you leave for an extended time, we may be able to
stop and restart your lessons. Keep in mind that your
restarted
lesson
may need
to be at a different day or time. Please call the office
at 530-759-1214 or speak with a staff member at the front
desk
if you need to
miss your
lessons for more than two weeks in a row.
When
can we make up a class?
We believe that regular, weekly swim lessons are the best way to make progress. Our Make Up lessons are designed to help swimmers maintain regular practice, yet minimize disruption for the school. If you can’t come for your regular lesson, we do offer Make Ups as long as you call us before your absence (no later than the day of the absence). If you don’t notify us of the absence, we won’t be able to issue a Make Up lesson. To schedule a Make Up, call during the week you wish to do the Make Up. You may also use your Make Up for a Family Swim Night. Each swimmer may do 4 Make Ups per calendar year; after that Make Ups are $5 each. Make Ups will not “roll over” to the next year. Make-up lessons are offered on a “space-available” basis within existing lessons and must be taken within 30 days of the absence. There are no Make Ups for a missed Make Up. Make Ups are not transferrable. Make Ups must be scheduled while you are currently enrolled for swim lessons. Our
family’s
schedule varies by season. What if I need to change
my day/time throughout the year?
No worries! You can change your class day or time at
any time as long as there’s availability. Just
call the office at 530-759-1214 or stop by the desk
and speak with a staff member.
Why
are lessons only once a week?
We believe consistent education produces outstanding
results. Once a week lessons provide the foundation
for learning
that lasts a
lifetime. If your child would like to swim more than
once a week, you may select
an additional day and time.
What
if my class has only one student?
If a semi-private lesson has only one student enrolled,
we reserve the right to cancel or consolidate that
class into
another. If
a class has
only one student due to absences, it becomes a 20-minute
private lesson for that day.
My
toddler is potty-trained. Does he need a swim diaper?
Re-usable swim diapers are REQUIRED of all swimmers
3 and under, even those who are potty trained.
The warm
water
stimulates digestion, so
even proficient pottiers can have accidents. We
must make sure
that we avoid all possibility of fecal contamination
in our pool to keep
all
our swimmers safe and healthy.
What
happens to my class day and time if my child moves up a level?
In many cases, when a swimmer moves up a level,
his current swim class (instructor and other
children) will continue
to work for
him/her. Often, the small group of children will
move up levels together – or leapfrog
one another – so they can stay together.
Our classes are usually made up of a couple levels
working together (such as Levels 1-2, or 4-5).
However, if a class becomes too imbalanced, your
child may need to move to another group when he/she
moves up a level. There may be an opening
at the same day and time, or we may need to find
another day and time that will work for you.
What
if my child’s class isn’t working
out?
If you EVER have questions or issues about your
child’s lesson – whether
it’s other swimmers, your own child, the
instructor, or a combination – please
talk with the Site Supervisor on deck during the
lesson. He/she will work with you to make sure
that your child’s experience is positive
and productive. Of course, if we need to find another
class for your child, we can certainly make changes
to your day or time.
How
do I know if my child needs swim lessons?
School age children need swim lessons to learn
to swim on top of the water. Underwater swimming
cannot
save
their lives!
Children tire quickly
underwater and trying to sustain underwater swimming
may even
cause
a drowning. Learning a good freestyle stroke
with proper air exchange will
help your child build confidence in the water
and may save his or her life. In addition to
safety,
swimming
skills
allows children
to enjoy
the variety of activities in and around water.
How
long will it take to learn to swim?
This depends on your child’s age and level of fitness. It takes
20 or more lessons for preschoolers to learn the
basic skills of floating, kicking, returning to the wall and rolling
over on their back to breathe,
float and rest. Older children learn more quickly
and most learn to swim 2 or more strokes in 20 or so lessons.
What
type of lesson does SWIMAMERICA offer?

adult. We teach with the most effective method
known, using
a progression developed
by this

well and learn the skills quickly. Group lessons are offered with a ratio
of 1:3-4 in the earlier levels and 1:up to 5 in the advanced levels.
Our coaches are mature adults with ASCA Level 1 certification, and ongoing
SwimAmerica training.
