SwimAmerica
offers a variety of classes to meet your needs. We teach
infants through adults. Choices include standard group lessons, private
lessons, stroke school, special three-year-old classes and infant/baby
classes. All of our instructors are highly trained. It’s important
for your child to feel comfortable during swim lessons. If your child
has a favorite instructor, let us know and we will do our best to
place your child with him or her. Lessons are 30 minutes.
Class
Size
Private: 1 student per instructor
Semi-private: 3-4 students per instructor
Three-Year-Old: 2 students per instructor
Infant/Baby: Up to 8 infants (each with a parent or other helper)
per instructor
Standard
Semi-Private Lessons
Our most popular lessons are standard semi-private lessons. Children
are placed in groups of 3 to 4 students based on their skill level.
As children progress through the levels, they will have the opportunity
to swim with children at a similar level each time. We assess classes
early on and move children to a different station if their current
station
isn’t meeting their needs. Standard semi-private lessons with
only one participant are 20 minutes.
Private
Lessons
Private lessons are a great solution for a child who has extreme
fear of the water. Our instructors will take it slow, helping your
child
adjust to the water at his or her own pace. Once your child is
more comfortable
with swim lessons, you may choose to move him or her to a standard
group class.
Adult Lessons
Private adult lessons are offered for all swim abilities, by appointment. $50 for a 30-minute lesson, with a minimum of 4 lesssons.
Stroke
School
Stroke school is designed for the swimmer who is looking for a
longer, more challenging lesson. While our standard group lesson
is half
an hour, stroke school is 45 minutes long. Stroke school is offered
for
stations
8 through 10. The cost is the same as group lessons.
Kinderswim
Kinderswim is a program designed for 4 - 6 year olds who are not in school during lunch hours.
- Tuesdays 12:00, 12:30 and 1:00 pm
- Standard semi-private lessons for swimmers ages 4—6.
- 3—4 children per instructor.
- $75/month with no annual registration fee for new swimmers the first year!
- Feel free to bring a lunch to enjoy after your lesson.
Three-Year-Old
Because three-year-olds require more attention than older children,
we put them in classes of 2 children per instructor. Three-year-olds
can
learn to propel themselves independently in the water, learn
safety skills, as well as learn basic stroke skills in freestyle,
backstroke,
breaststroke
and butterfly. Once children are ready to move beyond the three-year-old
class, they will be placed in a standard semi-private lesson.
Infant/Toddler
Program (5 - 36 months)
Lessons will help the very young child to become acclimated to the water and learn to enjoy the sensations associated with movement in the water. Infant/toddlers will be introduced the skills to float on their back, and to breathe and kick to the wall should they accidentally fall into the water. In addition, our instructors will advise you on how to properly work with your child in the water. Each infant/toddler must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver. Unless noted, classes will include up to eight children, plus caregiver.
The Infant/Toddler program is structured into two groups:
Star
Fish
Star Fish is the foundation of our Infant/Toddler program. Instructors will work with the caregivers on basic swim skills and pool safety. As more than a “splash class,” instructors will make sure all our participants also understand the “why” behind all our songs and games. Every class is based on a familiar routine with activities and songs designed to teach important swim fundamentals…
Gold
Fish
The Gold Fish class is designed to transition our advanced toddlers
(approximately 30 months and older) into a 3-Year-Old class.
This class will have 4-5
children, plus caregivers.
The
class will focus on more advanced swim skills, such as floating independently,
pushing off from a wall
in a streamline,
and kicking
back to the wall.
Additionally, the instructor will begin more working directly
with the child (with the parent still present in the water).
This class
will begin
to resemble a 3-Year Old class, except the parent is still
the primary instructor.
Typically
children are ready to participate independently in a 3-Year Old class
when they are 3 years old. However,
in addition
to age, before
advancing the child to the 3-Year Old class, the instructor
will look for the child to:
- Work
with an instructor (who’s not the parent) with minimal hesitation.
- Communicate
with the swim coach.
- Follow
simple safety instructions.
